It has been demonstrated that red light LED therapy promotes skin repair at the cellular level by directly stimulating specialized skin cells called fibroblasts, located within the dermis layer of the skin. Fibroblasts contain mitochondria, which are responsible for the production of the cellular energy that is needed throughout the body. Red light energy at 633nm stimulates the mitochondria to increase production of cellular energy in the form of ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate). The increase in ATP energy stimulates the production of collagen and elastin fibers, which are then added to the skin to increase elasticity, reducing signs of aging in the process.
